Where will this shit lead to?

I never expected to see a link like this around here. Most people here seem to love G.W.

Personally, I think when you simply say, "Where will this shit lead to?" it takes a stab at religion in general which isn't right. I could care less what religion you practice and if you say something I think is ignorant, well then, I'm just going to stop listening or change the subject to baseball.

But when you ask, "Where will this lead to if mixed with politics?" well, then, you've got a bit of an issue, as can be plainly seen by how divided our country was during the last two elections.

Our forefathers seperated church and state for a reason. They thought long and hard on the matter and came to a decision that has worked for some time now. The only quotes I'd raise an eyebrow to on that link is the ones by G.W. (nevermind his dad, or Reagan, they're long gone now). I get a bit worried when the leader of the free world and Commander in Chief of one of the strongest militaries in the world says god is talking to him and telling him what to do.

There is a reason people still tell the story of Joan of Arc.

First, who knows how man of those things are taken out of context. But if your going to bash the right bash the left as well. I am sure that the liberal a-holes on the far left have said twice as many stupid things. I agree that there are some nut cases on the right but twice as many are on the left.
And as far as G.W. goes saying God told him, give him a brake. Dont tell me God has never spoken to you? God has spoke to me threw a death of a friend, he has spoken to me threw a rainbow, he has spoke to me threw a stanger. When God speaks to me it's not audible but threw circumstance. Get a clue, dah. And if God hasn't spoken to you maybe you should try listening or take a look at the stars in the sky some time.

First, who knows how man of those things are taken out of context.

That's a good point.

But wait, did you just tell me "dah" and "get a clue" whilst in the same breath telling me god talks to you, but in special ways that only you can understand? Your argument went from insightful to inane in about 200 character strokes of the keyboard (though many of them were keyed incorrectly).

I think it's wonderful that you saw the things you saw, but you don't run the free world. Also, you applied what you saw to important aspects of your life by the sounds of it. When you rule a country, I'm afraid there is a bit more to it than whistful insight from god. It kind of says so in, you know, The Constitution.

Man, I had so many ideas spilling through my fingertips for a reply, but then I started thinking. . . probably a waste of time and more aggravation than it's worth.

With respect to both sides, yes, a bet a handful of those quotes are taken out of context. But lets not forget there are a lot more than a handful of quotes on that page. Most are from radical evangelicals, but others are from some prominent figures. These prominent figures, however, are the people who are definitely outspoken, and I don't think that their quotes are so out of whack that it should warrant any quote tinkering, much like our good friend O'Reilly takes part in.*

Without getting into political discourse, hats off to JunkFunk for always coming up with a great post (even though as of late they have unfortunately been far fewer) whether it's a plethora of smokin hott chicks, face disfigurations, drunk ramblings, and political satire (or in this case evangelical politics that should scare the hell out of even most moderate righties). So, thanks goes to JunkFunk for keeping the nng.org community on their toes!

Oh please dont get me started on the left wing, those fucking pussies are not worth the shit coming out of the rights mouth. As far as see it, both sides are NOT LIVING IN THE REAL WORLD. The real world is not left or right, the real world is (or should be) moving forward. Doesnt matter if you go left OR right, sooner or later you will be moving in circles.

Fuck the blind eyes the right has, and fuck the self-righteousness of the left.

What pisses me off is the fact that the "right" complains about some koran schools in fuckin pakistan and pulls the same shit in kansas (evolution is not a fact and all that shit). We are supposed to be a modern civilization, and when some jackass says "The absence of democracy is perfect obedience to god." it just makes me want to puke.

Something has to change, and something has to change soon...

Shibumi: This is your quote.
{"But wait, did you just tell me "dah" and "get a clue" whilst in the same breath telling me god talks to you, but in special ways that only you can understand?"}

First, I was wrong and appoligize for saying "duh" and "get a clue", that was not fair and I hope you can forgive me.

Second, I didnt say that God speaks to me in ways that "only I can understand" I was simple stating a fact from my own life (i.e. from my own experences in life). God speaks to everyone in different ways and that is a few ways in which he speaks to me. He may speak to you in a different way, for example from our fore fathers who wrote the constitution.

Third, (regarding Jun Funks last paragraph) I agree with you that any country should be able to teach whatever religion they want in school just as long as that religion doesnt teach that you should go kill another person. http://www.blessedcause.org/Quran.htm
If the religious right is wrong in teaching creation and not evolution at least they aren't saying go kill those who don't believe.

Finally Shibumi, just as you mis quoted me (or took out of context my words) the same mistake could be made by anyone, and yes that includes me.

"With all due respect to those dear people, my friend, God Almighty does not hear the prayer of a Jew."

"Not only is homosexuality a sin, but anyone who supports fags is just as guilty as they are. You are both worthy of death."

"When science and the Bible differ, science has obviously misinterpreted its data."

and so on...

You must have it real bad when youre a gay jewish scientist, huh?

I am a scientist, actually. While paying my way through school i worked at a grocery store. It is evident there is a segmentation of two different kinds. There are the hard workers, in this i classify anyone other than scientists due to the lack of physical requirements the science community requires to earn a pay cheque. These are the citizens with no education that, with not knowing how the fundamentals of basic biology function, deem the mechanism for consciousness to an ethereal nature. Then there are educated science professionals. I emphasize science and not so much professional because the conducive implication is the genre in which is studied. Once given a choice of beliefs, how does one decide. Originally a catholic that attended church with my family on the weekend, i saw that science offered a logical......... does anyone care? great first post. yeah. i know.

religion is mans way to reachout to god.whether he is real or not isn;t for me to decide for you. that is inside you, but i think too many believe in gods for there nto to be at least 1.science focuses on explinations for things.. experiemnts trial and error. religion is a way to accept things without puttiong the thougth science does. what bothers me is science that is hypothesis. for all we know aliens could of put us on earth. and as far as homosexuality.. i think lebians and bi women are hot.Damn fuckin hot. And i think gei or bi guys are disgusting. yes sthat is a double standard and that is how i feel.

I swear, the next time some religious nut job kills someone, I'm going to start a petition to ban the bible. Forget about violent saturday morning kid shows and m. manson fans, the "good book" is the real problem.

I agree with you that It's not tv, music, or the bible that makes people kill others. The bible even talks about (murder) in the begining of time Cain killed his brother Able and back then there was no tv, music, or the "good book" to influence him. I believe that all men are born evil, and selfish. For example, take a look at any baby, as soon as the baby can talk it says everything is "mine". No one taught the baby to be selfish it is just is born that way.

And as far as science trying to figure out if there is a God and who made everything. We are never going to figure him out. He is way to complex for that. That would be like an "ant" trying to figure us humans out, an "ant's" brain doesnt have a capacity.
Ever wonder why its called the "Big bang THEORY"? Notice that not even science is calling it the "Big bang FACT". It is just a theory and has never been proven true.

Like I said if you could figure out God he wouldn't be that big of a God now would he?
