A logo?

Hi guys I been toying with the idea of putting a logo on my posts, any ideas on what program to use to pop it on with and perhaps a program to make design it?

I used to have a mate to make me logos, signatures etc when i had my own google group but we sacked him.

Of course Photoshop is the best... but expensive... try to find a crack.
