Default photoshop

personally, I use photoshop by Adobe for any type of photo doctoring. it's pretty good @ removing little tidbits here and there. I tried Corel but way too indepth

Powerfull indeed, espcially now with Photoshop Elements 5 out in the market. No need for the full blown Photoshop version!

Chiplak, I'd recommend starting with IrfanView, which is a free picture viewer/image editor. It has a lot of image editing capabilities and really, it can do just about everything you need. Start by messing around with gamma correction and the brightness/contrast balance. It's really amazing how much some pictures can be improved just with gamma correction and contrast adjustments.

Eventually you'll outgrow it, though. I like PaintShop Pro, which usually costs a lot less than Photoshop. Some people swear by GIMP, which is free. I've never tried it, so I don't know.
